Mitt Stavanger (My Stavanger) is a large-scale sound installation for Stavanger's 900 centenary exhibition at Stavanger Museum.
The exhibition fills the whole top floor of the old building of Stavanger Museum. 160 loudspeakers of various types are built into the structure, playing back more than 100 separate channels of sound.
The sound installation comprises field recordings, sampled string instruments, sung and spoken voices, historical broadcasting material, synthesized sound both prerecorded and interactive.
As an immersive (and relatively loud!) experience the installation represents quite an innovative feature for a historical museum. Not to mention that the project involves 7 visual artists that have created each their room, integrating the museum objects into their personal artistic language and design.
Mitt Stavanger opened in June 2024 and will stay open most likely for two years and more.
Check Stavanger Museum's website for updated information on opening hours.
