The improvising collective Stavanger Kitchen Orchestra was co-founded by Nils Henrik Asheim and fellow musicians in 2005. The orchestra runs its projects from a pool of more than 25 musicians in the free-jazz/contemporary improv tradition. Nils Henrik has directed various projects with the Kitchen Orchestra:
- Sound Safari at the opening of Stavanger Concert Hall.
- Kitchen Baroque, with the ensemble Stavanger Barokk
- Trout, music to a dance performance with Inbal Pinto Dance Company
- the Yearly Christmas concert
