New friends in Palestine

Thursday, 17 December 2009

After the Trout period, six of us had the privilege to travel to Nablus and meet the people there. We had a meeting with students at the music class at the University, we met the organisation Nablus the Culture, and architect and town planner Naseer Arafat showed us the historical city as well as sharing stories we will not forget about life in Palestine.

MAZURKA recording

Sunday, 01 November 2009

We just finished recording the MAZURKA project. Gjertruds Gypsy Orchestra and Nils Henrik Asheim (piano) perform new interpretations of Frederic Chopin's Mazurkas. The recording was done in this beautiful old mansion of Ulefos Hovedgaard, which contain a superb gem of a 1820's piano, newly restored. Release: Spring 2010, in the Chopin year.

Premiere of “Cello Stories”, Aug 15

Tuesday, 04 August 2009

Håkon Samuelsen and Trondheimsolistene are giving the first performance of this new work in the Norwegian Opera, Scene 2, during Oslo Chamber Music Festival, Saturday aug 15 at 13:00.

Cello Stories is basically a concerto for cello and string orchestra. But from there it starts to be different. I built it up thinking of four almost filmatic stories that are interlaced. By calling them “stories” I don’t mean to say they have a plot - rather that they possess a filmatic character, a situation or tableau which i feel is striking, epic and expressive. They also ask for very different quality of sound from the solo instrument, like different personalities. One is shy, talking in short, crystal clear phrases, drawing itself back in between.

Innlegg om "Kulturbyfondet"

Sunday, 22 March 2009

CATCH LIGHT, new work 26march

Sunday, 22 March 2009

PREHEAR! Listen to a few seconds of sound….
Catch Excerpt

Catch Light is a double concerto for violin and percussion. The Percussion part is built around a Bass drum, which is used for various purposes. The violin part origins in the light, airy register. The two soloists are working on their respective threads, independently but with related ideas. Like a continuous conversation between two persons that keep a certain distance. Traces remain in the orchestra, as veins of sound.
